Sheraton Kauai Resort has two fresh-water swimming pools. The Beach Pool is located alongside Poipu Beach and the Garden Pool is set amidst the gardens and koi-ponds in the resort's Garden Wing. Both pools have a children's pool, with the Beach Pool also having a slide and a whirlpool, while the Garden Pool has a waterfall. The marine wildlife at Poipu is plentiful and varied, and not all of it is underwater. The resort's most frequent return guest, Kimo, is an endangered Monk Seal who stops to rest and sunbathe on the beach almost weekly. From December through April, whale watching is good even from the shore as the large humpback whales spout and breach as they pass on their way to or from their winter feeding grounds in Hawaii. Pods of Spinner Dolphins often trail in the wake of fishing/snorkeling boats and Green Sea Turtles, another endangered species, can be seen swimming just offshore.

• Shells Steak & Seafood Restaurant - Sweeping ocean view. Serves buffet breakfasts daily (as well as an à la carte menu) and seafood buffets on Friday nights. Other nights, specialties include local seafood, steaks, and prime rib. Children 12 years and younger dine free (one child per adult, maximum of two children per table). Dinner reservations recommended.

• Amore Ristorante Italiano - Located at one end of Shells, this romantic spot serves traditional Italian cuisine such as pasta, prosciutto, pork, veal, lasagna, and lobster ravioli. Fine ocean views. Open nightly for dinner. Reservations recommended.

• The Point - Casual restaurant with long bar, couch seating, a pool table, and television sets tuned to sports. Next to an outside terrace, a cook grills burgers and fish. Live music and dancing several nights per week. Casual menu served from late morning to midnight. Seating either inside or on the terrace.

• Oasis Bar & Grill - Poolside spot serving burgers, fish sandwiches, salads, snacks, smoothies, and tropical cocktails during the day.
