Description:  Step into a Polynesian village as you've always imagined, under swaying palms, a charming sprinkle of thatched roofs at the edge of the sea, no phones no television, no clocks, just the rhythm of the waves, sunrise, sunset. Only the most desirable amenities of  civilization have slipped into this primitive world consisting of beautifully appointed interiors, gourmet meals included in the price, Kona coffee, freshwater pools, whirlpool spa, a variety of water sports, tennis and Polynesian entertainment. Included are guidance  and or instruction for adventures such as fishing and island crafts, ancient petroglyphs, sailing lessons and exploration of the natural environment by both sunlight and torchlight.

No vehicles beyond the sand parking lot. No paved paths. No telephones, except in a phone center with Internet access. No air conditioning except in the phone center. No television. No radios. No CD players. No clocks. There's nothing to interfere with the natural rhythms and sounds of oceanside life regulated by sunrises and sunsets. Kona Village is where celebrities come to relax and be treated like everyone else, which is to say warmly but not fawningly. Legions of guests return annually. Begun in 1965 when access was by private plane on the resort's landing strip, Kona Village has since tripled in size.

Kona Village Resort occupies the site of a fishing village that was home to 10,000 ancient Hawaiians. When they abandoned the site they left behind burial and ceremonial caves, petroglyphs, and a few lava-rock house foundations—all of which can still be seen. Guided tours explain the history and culture. this Polynesian-style resort consists of 125 thatch-roof hales (cottages) spread among 82 oceanfront acres of black lava, light-colored sand, natural ponds, and lush tropical plantings. A coconut outside your hale lets others know you'd rather be alone!  Optional private whirlpool spas are available in a limited number of ocean front hales. The spa is located on the private lanai, perfect for a romantic evening under the stars.
